Megaliths to Chateaux - 6000 Years of History in Brittany and the Loire Valley

This year's travel course continues our journey through Neolithic Europe, this time exploring ancient Brittany - recently suggested to be the origin point of the entire megalithic tradition. The second half of the course will explore the amazing castles and chateaux of the Loire Valley constructed from the 10th to the 17th centuries.

Carnac
Participants will fly from Paris to Nantes and spend their first evening there, attending a lecture on the Neolithic Carnac and surrounding sites. Then it's off to Vannes, which will be the homebase for exploring the over 5000 megaliths and ancient tombs of the Carnac region. Of the roughly 20,000 megaliths in all of Europe, 25% of them are right there!

Chenonceau
The second half of the week will be spent travelling through the Loire Valley and exploring some of the finest architecture ever built. An evening lecture will explain the valley's rich history, from Roman times to the renassiance. Six of the valleys most beautiful castles and chateaux will be explored from a homebase in the city of Tours. Da Vinci spent the final years of his life in the Loire Valley. His home is now a museum full of his amazing models and inventions.

Versailles
The final day of the course will be spent exploring France's most famous palace - Versailles. A private tour will allow the group to avoid the crowds and enjoy both the palace and the fascinating faux peasant village built for Marie Antionette. That evening, a special event of music, food and fireworks in the massive gardens of Versailles will bring the course to a festive close.
